The Ministry of Finances has vowed to support Greek producers, after about 3,000 trucks with fresh peaches and nectarines were turned back at the Russian border, signaling the start of the Russian sanctions against EU countries.
On Saturday producers from Imathia and Kozani demanded that any produce turned down due to sanctions must be documented, recalled, destroyed – particularly peaches – while demanding compensation.
With producers concerned about their livelihood, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in touch with the Ministries of Agricultural Development and Growth in order to determine the effects of the Russian embargo.
Afterwards the Ministries will seek solutions to cover the loses of Greek producers, by diverting the unwanted in the domestic market or other oversees destinations.
