US President Donald Trump has lauded the ratification and implementation of the Prespa Agreement in letters to PM Alexis Tsipras and North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.
Trump described the Prespa Accord as the most historic accomplishment in the Balkans since the Dayton Accord and praised the leadership of Tsipras and Zaev.
The text of the letter was published by the Athens News Agency.
The US President wrote that the leaders’ joint efforts ensure a more stable and prosperous future for their countries and the entire region.
In his letter to Zaev, Trump said that his country will have the place it deserves in Nato as North Macedonia.
Indeed, Trump expressed hopes that the agreement will also inspire other countries in the Balkan region.
Trump wrote that the agreement underscores that with political courage and the ability to focus on long-term benefits instead of short-term dangers, leaders can reach difficult but necessary compromises in order to lead their countries to a brighter future.
The US President also welcomed the parties’ ratification and implementation of the accord and said that they are important US allies.
Trump welcomed the fact that North Macedonia will be admitted to Nato as its 30th member and noted that the Alliance will continue to work at ensuring peace and prosperity in the Western Balkans.
