By joint ministerial decision, the government has approved rent subsidies for victims of the tragic wildfire in Mati and other areas of the Attica prefecture, as well as for the victims of another fire in the Peloponnese.
The benefit will go to those whose homes were deemed by state engineers as not fit for residence, or as requiring demolition.
The subsidies will be paid to owners of destroyed homes that served as their permanent and main residence, and who will rent or be hosted at a home that is within the same prefecture as their damaged residence.
Those who own a second residence within a radius of 50km of their fire-damaged home will not be eligible for the benefit.
The beneficiaries will receive the rent subsidy for as long as it takes to repair or reconstruct their fire-stricken residence, and for a maximum of two years.
The monthly amount of the rent subsidy will be determined according to the number of members in the family whose residence was stricken by the fire.
Single individuals will receive 300 euros monthly, two-member families will receive 350 euros monthly, three-member families will get 400 euros, four-member families will get 450 euros, and families with over four members will receive 500 euros monthly.
The subsidies will be disbursed every three months. The first quarterly instalment will be paid immediately after the issuance of a decision by the competent state service that the applicant is a legitimate beneficiary of the subsidy.
