Former Pasok finance minister Alekos Papadopoulos has said that Greece is not ready to face the markets on its own and that the bailout programme should have been extended for four more years.
“The [third bailout] has ended. Greece as of today will not be receiving loans from its partners in the eurozone, but rather from the markets,” Papadopoulos said.
The ex-minister and co-founder of the Dimokratiki Efthini (Democratic Responsibility) party, has long been known for his devotion to fiscal discipline and has turned down several offers to run for parliament again.
«The country is unready for a journey with its wings broken. A national stance devoid of blinders would have mandated that the programme be extended until 2022. That, however, would have required political bravery. Good luck, then,” Papadopoulos said.
