The mayhem and lack of coordination that prevailed in the first hours of the deadly, 23 July fire, with 91 people dead, are being revealed daily, exposing the government and state services.
As the data indicate, Greek Police had no communication with the Fire Service on the development of the fire in Eastern Attica.
According to a report in the daily Kathimerini, officers who were assigned the task of conveying messages from police headquarters in Athens, were calling the Fire Service coordinating centre, but nobody was answering any of the five emergency telephone numbers.
The data published by the newspaper derive from official documents that will be handed over to the supervisor of the Athens Lower Court Prosecutor’s Office, Elias Zagoraios, who is conducting a judicial probe of the case.
One of the documents states that the information received by Greek Police headquarters came exclusively from police forces that were operating at the scene.
