Struggling to keep his Independent Greeks Party together after the backlash over the FYROM accord, Panos Kammenos declared that an enhanced three-fifths parliamentary majority should be required to pass the agreement, even though he and his party will vote it down.
Perhaps it will never come to parliament he said, alluding to the prior steps that must be taken by FYROM, including a constitutional revision, before the Greek parliament ratifies it.
Kammenos lashed out at New Democracy, charging that the main opposition party collaborates with the extreme right-wing Golden Dawn and the neo-fascists.
Kammenos denied various reports that suggested that the government received promises on debt relief in exchange for signing the FYROM agreement. “We never put national issues and the debt issue in the balance,” he said.
“We will impede and block the ratification of the agreement in any way we can,” Kammenos declared.
Regarding the cohesion of his parliamentary group after the departure of MP Dimitris Kammenos (no relation to the party leader), Panos Kammenos said that, “Independent Greeks MPs cannot be bought off, they do not bargain, and they do not negotiate.”
Kammenos said that MPs and cadres are receiving SMS text messages and emails pressuring them to leave the party.
He asserted that there have also been death threats, with unknown people calling children and saying that they will bring them their parent’s head in a cart. He demanded a prosecutor’s investigation.
Kammenos said that after the no confidence vote in parliament, in which he supported the government, he received a tweet with a copy of an account that listed personal information of MPs and party cadres.
He said New Democracy is orchestrating a pogrom against the ancient Greeks nationwide.
