Tzanakopoulos: No FYROM naming deal reached yet

The Greek government has repeatedly stressed that there will either be a comprehensive agreement resolving all aspects of the dispute or there will be no agreement.

Government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos expressed confidence today that the government can garner al large parliamentary majority to pass a prospective naming settlement with FYROM, but he underlined that no comprehensive agreement has been reached yet.
The Greek government has repeatedly stressed that there will either be a comprehensive agreement resolving all aspects of the dispute or there will be no agreement.
Tzanakopoulos reiterated that domestic use of the new name in FYROM and a constitutional amendment changing the name of the country are necessary conditions for a solution.
“When an agreement has been reached, we shall inform the political parties and the Greek people, and there will be a broad, exhaustive discussion,” the spokesman said.

Tzanakopoulos said that main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis should have taken a clear position in favour of a settlement, based on the conditions set by Greece, and that instead he allied himself with the extreme right wing of New Democracy, which has entrapped him.
