Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras discussed migration issues with the European Union’s Migration Commisioner, Dimitris Avramopoulos, in Athens today.
The meeting comes just two weeks after the tragedy of the capsizing of a boat off the island of Agathonisi, in which 19 migrants died, many of them children. There were only three survivors.
There are heightened concerns over possible similar incidents as the weather improves and summer approaches, and there are more such perilous journeys.
Government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos today underlined the importance of the EU-Turkey agreement on managing migrant currents.
Tsipras and Avramopoulos made no comments to the press after the meeting.
