The government has been embroiled in a battle royal with the judiciary, accusing judges of refusing to file property and assets declarations and publicly criticizing judicial rulings.

In a terse statement issued after today’s bomb blast at the Athens appellate court, the Association of Judges and Prosecutors have blamed the government for cultivating fertile ground for the attack.

“All those who of late have cultivated a bellicose climate with the judiciary, slandering those who serve it, should at long last consider their responsibilities. It is well known that playing games with institutions has unforeseeable consequences,” the statement read.

The government has been embroiled in a battle royal with the judiciary, accusing judges of refusing to file property and assets declarations and publicly criticizing judicial rulings.

In an unprecedented attack, the president of the Council of State, Nikos Sakellariou, accused the government of “raw intervention” in the judicial branch of government.

“Judges and prosecutors, dedicated to their constitutional duty, are not daunted by such criminal acts. The government is obliged to guarantee the conditions and terms of security for employees and citizens who visit the country’s courthouses,” the statement concluded.
