The office of the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) prosecutor has ordered a preliminary investigation of the circumstances of the sale of munitions from Greek army stock to Saudi Arabia (300,000 105mm artillery projectiles), following press reports by the daily Ta Nea and other media.
Supreme Court Prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou ordered the head of the Corruption Prosecutor’s office, Eleni Touloupaki to conduct a preliminary investigation, and all relevant press reports have been handed over to Touloupaki.
If during the investigation the prosecutor comes across names of political divs who might bear responsibility in the affair, she is obliged by law to hand the file over to parliament, which was must decide whether to send the case back to the judiciary to be prosecuted.
