Orthodox Archbishop Anastasios of Albania had scheduled talks in Athens this afternoon with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

The meeting comes after an outcry from the Greek ethnic minority of Albania that state and local authorities are conducting a push to remove the Greek minority from their seaside properties in the coastal city of Himara. Over a dozen seaside homes and shops owned by ethnic Greeks have been razed in recent days, as part of a seaside redevelopment programme.

The Greek residents and owners have filed suit in the competent Albanian courts, and they say they intend to take appeal to the European courts if they are not vindicated.
