The main opposition party New Democracy appears confident that early elections will be called, following the suspension of short term debt relief measures, in response to the Greek government’s recent proclamations.
In a statement on the recent development, New Democracy accused the government of being “completely erratic and opportunistic” and argued that it had not discussed the distribution of the surplus with the country’s creditors, as noted in the bailout agreements.
As such, senior officers within the main opposition party suspect that the Prime Minister may call early elections in order to escape his responsibilities.
