Northern sections of Greece are covered in snow, particularly in mountainous regions. The snowfall is rather intense in the municipality of Thessaloniki, with local authorities taking measures to keep the streets clear. Temperatures in many areas are just below freezing, however there have not been any major problems reported as a result of the snowfall.
According to the national meteorological agency EMY the cold weather front is expected to extend further sound in Greece, even reaching Attica and the northern suburbs of Athens. EMY also notes that the cold weather will continue at least until Wednesday. Further south in the country, in the Ionian Islands, Peloponnesus, North Aegean islands, Kyklades, Crete and the Dodecanese there will be thunderstorms and strong winds.
