The European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Pierre Moscovici commented that it is in Greece’s interests to not split up the institutions, on his way ot of his meeting with Labor Minister Efi Achtsioglou on Tuesday.
Mr. Moscovici told journalists that the aim is a staff level agreement which also includes the IMF. Asked about his discussion with the Labor Minister, the European Commissioner noted that it was constructive and that there has been progress in the current negotiations.
Later on Mr. Moscovici gave a press conference at the EU’s offices in Athens, where he suggested that an extraordinary Eurogroup make be scheduled for the 19th of December. Although his visit in Athens was productive, it appears that there are a number of unresolved issues to reach a staff level agreement.
Additionally the European official underlined that if Greece fulfills its commitments, then its partners must also respond to what has been agreed. Mr. Moscovici added that Greece’s geopolitical position is important and ruled out the possibility of a fourth bailout agreement.
