The Greek statistics authority ELSTAT has published its latest survey on the country’s labor force for in July 2016, which shows that the rate of unemployment was 23.2%, compared to 24.8% in July 2015 and 23.4% in June 2016. The number of employed amounted to 3,703,828 persons, the unemployed amounted to 1,120,843 while the number of inactive to 3,220,780.
The number of employed increased by 80,663 persons compared to July 2015 (+2.2%) and by 14,617 persons compared with to 2016 (+0.4%). Unemployed decreased by 76,727 persons (-6.4%) compared to July 2015 and by 5,395 persons compared to June 2016 (-0.5%). Inactive persons – that is, persons that neither worked neither looked for a job – decreased by 42,919 persons (-1.3%) compared to July 2015, and by 12,597 persons compared to June 2016 (-0.4%).
