A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for assaulting and wounding a police officer with a knife in Aegio on Tuesday. The 15-year-old surrendered himself to the police, while his parents were arrested to face charges for neglecting a minor. The police have also arrested another 15-year-old boy and his parents in relation to the case.
According to the police report, during his patrol on Tuesday morning, the police officer attempted to inspect a moped without license plates, which the two 15-year-olds were riding.
The moped sped off and attempted to escape and was cornered in an alley. The driver crashed into the police car’s door, injuring an officer as he was trying to get out. At that point the pillion driver attacked the officer with his fists and then pulled a knife and wounded him in the chest.
During the struggle the knife-wielding 15-year-old attempted to strike again, however the police officer fired his gun to scare them off. With the help of passer-by, the wounded police officer managed to arrest the moped drive, who was kicking and screaming, while the other managed to escape.
The parents of the moped driver were located later on and arrested for neglecting to supervise a minor. The other 15-year-old eventually gave himself up to the police and faces attempted homicide charges. The police officer was subsequently hospitalized at the University Hospital of Patra.
