The applications for substitute teaching positions for the 2016/2017 academic year have reached the record number of 92,955, with the Ethnos newspaper noting that 52,451 have applied for positions paid on an hourly basis.
According to the Ministry of Education there were no problems in the electronic application procedure, which saved the applicants a lot of time and frustration, as previously they had to cue outside directorates of education.
In greater detail regarding the applicants and their focus, there were 21,942 philologists, 13,450 elementary school teachers and 11,123 for nursery teachers. After philologists, the most popular applicants were mathematicians (5,621) and physical education teachers (4,983).
