The Coast Guard is continuing its search and rescue operation in the south of Crete, where a 25-meter wooden vessel carrying about hundreds of migrants and refugees capsized.
So far 340 people have been rescued in the operation, while 10 bodies have been recovered. The Heber clipper tanker took 242 and one body and is headed for an Italian port, while the others have been taken in by Egyptian Navy vessels.
There is some confusion over the number of people on-board the vessel, with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) claiming there were more than 700 people on board, while the Hellenic Coast Guard estimates that there were about 450-500, without however being able to confirm any divs.
