With Greece’s northern borders essentially closed, thousands of refugees are unable to carry on their journey into Europe, with more landing on the Greek islands and eventually Piraeus every day.
At present there are over 4,000 refugees in the passenger stations at the port in Piraeus. The official count on Tuesday evening was 3,430, with a further 600 arriving on Wednesday morning via the Ariadne ferry boat.
Meanwhile, a case of hepatitis A was reported in gate F1 on Tuesday. According to the report an 8-year-old refugee who was staying there with his younger sibling and parents, was found to have symptoms of the illness. The child was taken to the Agia Sofia hospital, where he was inoculated and is reportedly in good health.
