The decision of FYROM and Serbia to only allow passage to refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan is creating a major problem at the temporary refugee camp in Idomeni, as many are not allowed to carry on their journeys.
This decision has prompted protests and reactions from other nationals who are currently trying to carry on. The UNHCR’s Alexandros Voulgaris told the Athens-Macedonia News Agency that there are over 5,000 refugees at the temporary camp. He also called refugees to not attempt to cross over from anywhere other than the neutral zone.
On Thursday a spokesperson for FYROM’s armed forces confirmed that work has begun on the border with Greece in an effort to limit the passage of refugees and migrants, suggesting that a fence may also be raised.
