The police have identified four of the suspected Golden Dawn members who brutally assaulted New Democracy MP Giorgos Koumoutsakos outside Parliament last week.

Two were identified and summoned on Tuesday – a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who later appeared at the central police HQ to provide a statement.

The 23-year-old appeared to punch the MP in a video of the attack and was located in Dafni wearing the same jacket during the attack. The 22-year-old woman, who is shown ripping the MP’s coat, had previously been arrested for clashes during a demonstration of the neo-Nazi party in 2012.

On Thursday a further two others suspects surrendered themselves to the police, a young man wearing a hat in the video of the attack, as well as a 50-year-old man appearing to participate in the attack. Both were contacted by the police to testify and received a two-day deadline.

New Democracy MPs submit question in Parliament

A group of 30 New Democracy MPs have submitted a question in Parliament for the Minister of Public Order Nikos Toskas, to respond to the “profound inefficiency” in arresting the culprits of the brutal attack. The main opposition MPs are highly critical of the government’s response to the attack, given that it took place outside Parliament and was broadly covered by the media.
