A wildfire that broke out in a forested area in the Kallithea area of Xylokastro at noon on Tuesday is raging on for a second day, as firefighters are struggling to contain it.
The Fire Brigade dispatched 32 vehicles, three water bombers, two helicopters and about 100 firefighters to the area, who are also supported by municipal services. Additional firefighters were later dispatched, as the fire raged on through out the night in a remote area.
On Tuesday afternoon a nearby children summer camp decided to evacuate on its own accord, as a precaution. Peloponnesus Governor Petros Tatoulis commented that the camp is not at risk. The fire has not reached any residential areas.
