The Deputy Minister of Sport Stavros Kontonis met with a delegation from the Super League on Tuesday, ahead of the 2015/16 football season premiere, which is scheduled for the 22nd of August. Among the issues discussed were the operation of CCTV cameras and the introduction of electronic tickets in football stadiums, which the State considers essential for games to be carried out.
Present at the meeting were Super League president Giorgos Borovilos, CEO of reigning champions Olympiacos FC Yannis Vretzos, the president of Panathinaikos FC Yannis Alafouzos, PAOK FC spokesman Dimokratis Papadopoulos and the president of Atromitos FC Giorgos Spanos.
After the meeting, Mr. Borovilos told journalists that the delegation requested two weeks to fully implement the legislation on CCTV cameras and electronic tickets. The Super League president explained that the situation caused by the introduction of capital controls has required further coordination.
The 2014/2015 season saw some of the most violent outbreaks of hooligan-related violence in recent years, with one football fan tragically killed during a fracas in Crete and the league suspended on a number of occasions.
