A number of SYRIZA MPs aligned with the Left Platform – the party’s ‘internal opposition’ – have denounced the recent bailout agreement that was reached with the creditors and have urged their colleagues to vote against it in Parliament.
MP Stathis Leoutsakos [pictured] told journalists that today is “a difficult and crucial day for the Greek people and the country” upon arrival outside Parliament. Mr. Leoutsakos argued that “the bailout and SYRIZA and incompatible with each other and all that can happen is [for Parliament] to vote against this agreement and return it to the creditors as unacceptable”.
According to the SYRIZA MP, who is aligned with the Left Platform, the implementation of the third bailout will result in the country’s catastrophe and ultimate surrender of national and popular sovereignty. Mr. Leoutsakos also noted that the government must move forward decisively and in line with its election campaign pledges.
Similarly MP Dimitris Stratoulis argued that “far from not voting for a bailout, the government should have abolished the previous two”, citing a SYRIZA campaign pledge to cancel the bailout.
Mr. Stratoulis argued that the government will not face any problems in Parliament, but rather the Greek people, since “the bailout agreement offers no growth prospects”. The former Minister further explained that a battle will be given Parliament, as the measures related to social insurance are at the expense of pensioners.
