A sudden and intense thunderstorm late on Thursday evening has caused problems to the power grid in Thessaloniki, with outages experienced in areas such as Perea, Plagiari, Trilofos, Epanomi, Agia Triada and Redestos.
DEI crews were promptly dispatched on Thursday evening and worked throughout the night towards restoring the damages and restore electricity. The rainfall, which began late on Thursday afternoon, was accompanied by strong winds and lightening and carried out intermittently until midnight.
The strong winds blew over street signs and knocked down branches and trees, with the Fire Brigade being called out 22 times to deal with fallen trees. A number of parked vehicles were also damaged by the strong winds.
