The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker commented on the prospects of an agreement being reached between Greece and its international creditors, ahead of a critical Eurogroup and Euro Summit later in the day on Monday.

Mr. Tsipras told journalists that “I think this time for a substantial and viable solution that would allow Greece to come back to growth within the Eurozone with social justice and cohesion”. Mr. Juncker added that while progress has been achieved over the past couple days, further efforts were needed. He added that he was optimistic of an agreement being reached.

The Greek PM then spoke in Greek and explained that the aim of the agreement is to “leave behind the excessive primary surpluses, to save wages and pensions, to avoid absurd tax hikes in electricity, restore fairness in employment relations, promote just reforms and combat tax evasion and corruption. These are the keys for an honest agreement”.
