Following recent comments by the White House, US Secretary of Treasury Jack Lew reportedly contacted Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday evening.
According to unnamed sources, the American official insisted on being informed on the progress on the negotiations and the threat of an impasse.
It was also reported that Mr. Lew pressured the PM to compromise and reach an agreement with the creditors as soon as possible. Sources from Athens claimed that the Greek expressed its desire to “bridge the differences”.
