Following his Tuesday-morning meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the River Stavros Theodorakis told journalists that Greece is at crossroads and that there were no easy paths to take. Mr. Theodorakis commented that Europe must not deal in ultimatums and stressed that Europe needs Greece and Greece must have a European path. He urged the PM to consider how the economic situation is getting worse.
The River leader insisted upon the recent “Juncker package”, where Greece may receive up to 35 billion euros by 2020, provided that certain reforms are implemented. Mr. Theodorakis complained that this as not being presented to the Greek people. Nevertheless, Mr. Theodorakis announced that his party would support an agreement that keeps Greece within Europe, but was quick to point out that the European proposals have been problematic.
Mr. Theodorakis underlined that the Greek side must constantly consider its moves, in the negotiations and argued that while it is clear that Greece is losing friends, it is “far worse to make enemies”. The opposition party leader urged the Prime Minister to expedite negotiations and make the necessary moves.
