The 47-year-old riot police officer stationed in Thessaloniki, who is facing serious charges for murdering his seven-year-old daughter, reportedly faced serious psychological problems and was “covered” by colleagues to overcome psychological tests

Various colleagues have revealed that it was known within his station that the 47-year-old faced serious problems and that 13 years ago he attempted suicide. In the psychiatric evaluations that followed, it appears that colleagues helped him so that he was deemed fit for duty and to carry a firearm.

It appears that the “good intentioned” colleagues of the 47-year-old intervened and convince police doctors to not request or take into account his medical booklet, which documented his serious problems and the psychiatric medication that he was being prescribed. As such, the officer was allowed to carry on working as normal and participating in riot police operations.

Following his return from parental leave, he was appointed to guard duty, however there were concerns expressed about his unpredictable behavior. Police sources have noted that there is significant ‘pressure’ at the particular department in Thessaloniki, with three officers stationed there having committed suicide in recent years.
