The leader of The River Stavros Theodorakis underlined the need for an agreement and reforms, while slamming the government for being unable to implement much needed decisions.

Mr. Theodorakis, who gave an interview to Spanish daily El Pais, warned that unless an agreement is reached between Greece and its creditors “it will be a very negative development for my country and, I think, Europe in general”.

What the country needs is a government determined to implement the necessary reforms. Greece requires courage, skill and a specific plan” he added, before noting that his party has demonstrably proven to have those qualities.

Regarding the possibility of the government calling a referendum, Mr. Theodorakis asserted that “it is the solution of the most cowardly of cowards” and urged the government to call new elections, if it is afraid of “taking the decisions that the country needs”.

Finally, Mr. Theodorakis estimated that “the real problem is that a lot of time has been wasted” and claimed that the majority – in Parliament and society – want to conclude the negotiations so that Greece may carry on in the Eurozone and the EU.
