The team of scientists who are carrying out the geophysical survey and mapping of Kasta Hill in Amphipolis, where the enigmatic tomb was discovered last summer, has managed to compose a model of the ground before the dome was constructed [pictured].

By comparing the model with the condition of the ground currently, after the archeological excavation has begun, the scientists have learned that most of the hill is comprised of natural formations. The model will become more accurate after further data from a geotechnical drilling is included and taken into account.

Meanwhile the electric tomography of the hill’s interior has revealed some antistatic structures, which possibly ancient constructs. Any such areas will be investigated by archeologists. An area to the west of the hill’s dome in particular appears to be of particular interest to archeologists.
