The Minister of Environment Yannis Maniatis has approved of the environmental terms and conditions for the creation of the first hydroplane port in the country, which will be constructed in Kerkyra.

According to the ministerial decree, the hydroplane port will be constructed in the southwest of Kerkyra’s port. The decree makes provisions for the construction of buildings, a floating pier, a desalination unit and road access to the port. The hydroplane port will be able to service up to ten flights per day.

Mr. Maniatis expressed his satisfaction with the decision and argued that the government will support the new venture and seeks to further expand the country’s infrastructure, networks and services.

Aside from the positive impact on tourism, Mr. Maniatis noted that hydroplane ports will create new jobs and provide a number of social services on islands with no airport facilities, such as airlifting patients and delivering essential goods.
