The National Cadastre and Mapping Agency is facing serious delays in completing its cadastral survey, due to problems faced in documenting forest maps. The cadastral survey is expected to be complete by 2020.
According to a report in Ta Nea, the mapping of forest areas in any give area is essential before the cadastral survey can take place, as it will end real estate disputes which have long taken advantage of the uncertainty.
About 25.5% of land in Greece is estimated to be forested areas, however it has been reported that only 0.89% of the country’s forests have been mapped. Specifically, only 59 maps have been fully or partially certified.
