The European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström is scheduled to visit Athens on the 21st and 22nd of July in order to discuss the reception centers for migrants and asylum issues.
During her brief stay in Greece, Mrs. Malmström is scheduled to visit the migrant reception center in Mytilene with the Minister of Public Order Vasilis Kikilias on Monday. On Tuesday the European Commissioner will meet with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in Athens, as well as the Minister of Growth Nikos Dendias and the newly-elected regional governor of Attica Rena Dourou.
The head of the EU representatives in Greece Mr. Panos Karvounis revealed that Mrs. Malmström’s visit will be focused on the ongoing wave of immigration towards Greece, the national and European border control strategy and the efficiency of current measures in place.
