The archeological excavations in the “Psomi” area in Chios have uncovered parts of an ancient necropolis, dating back to the 6th of 7th century BC.
Amongst the more interesting findings in the plot of land are the complete remains of a horse, which has been transferred to the Archeological Museum of Chios and a number of clay sarcophagi.
It appears that the necropolis is the earliest organized such burial ground in Chios and further excavations are expected to shed light on the historic topography of the ancient city.
