The past few days have been dramatic for Fotis Kouvelis’ DIMAR, as two MPs, Grigoris Psarianos and Katerina Markou, and a central committee member, Andreas Papadopoulos, have left the party.
Katerina Markou was first to announce her departure from the Democratic Left, arguing that the party has lost its original set of values and ideological identity and spoke of an “old time, closed, autistic political mechanism”.
Later in the day DIMAR announced the expulsion of Grigoris Psarianos from the party due to the MP’s involvement with The River and reluctance to stand by the party’s line on critical matters, such as the DEI privatization referendum.
In response to Mr. Psarianos’ expulsion, Andreas Papadopoulos announced that he resigns from DIMAR’s central committee and criticized the party’s leadership for its decisions.
MP Spyros Lykoudis was critical of Mr. Kouvelis’ decision to expel Mr. Psarianos as it was “a particularly sad development in DIMAR’s affairs and exacerbates the climate within the party” and spoke of a lack of sobriety in the decision.
