According to Deutsche Welle, 2014 is going to be a milestone year for tourism in Greece, as reservations for the summer have increased by 52% compared to last year. The German news report is based on a recent study conducted by GfK in Germany.

The study cited by Deutsche Welle shows that despite the financial problems, Greece remains among the most popular tourist destinations for Germans, second only to Spain and Turkey. The Die Welt newspaper also published an article explaining that tourism in Greece has been on the rise since the political upheavals in recent times.

The GfK study indicates that German tourists had spent 4.4 billion euros on bookings, about 8% more than in 2013. Online bookings increased by 11%. The study further showed that German tourists will spend 7% more on their holidays. The greatest influx was noted in luxury holiday packages costing more than 3,000 euros.
