Ahmed Waqas, the Pakistani man accused of brutalized a young girl on a beach in Paros in the summer of 2012, was found guilty by the courts in Syros and sentenced to life imprisonment plus 25 years.
The police presence outside the courthouse was intense, as crowds congregated outside the courthouse. The trial began shortly before noon and the victim’s mother Mary Kotrotsou attempted to assault the defendant as he entered the court, but was held back by the police.
In his plea Waqas admitted his guilt and apologized for his actions. Kotrotsou described the horrific state her daughter was in when she discovered her and explained that she initially thought she was dead. Later Mrs. Kotrotsou explained that it is doubtful that her daughter will make a full recovery from the injuries she sustained.
