The special secretary of the Labor Inspection Body (SEPE) Kostas Pantazis has ordered an increase of targeted inspections all over Greece in an effort to tackle the burgeoning undeclared employment problem.
SEPE’s Special Inspectors, Social Inspectors as well as Technical and Healthcare Inspectors have been ordered to carry out investigations within their jurisdiction, throughout Greece, from Ioannina and Arachova to Karpenisi and Chania. While these inspections will be focused on the country-side, efforts will be made to maintain inspections in urban centers, such as Athens, Thessaloniki and Patra.
During the inspections that took place between the 15th of September and 30th of November, SEPE conducted 5,198 businesses and amongst the 27,425 employees discovered that 742 (2.71%) where undeclared and imposed fines worth 7,633,763 euros.
