A 13-year-old Serbian girl who was living in Xerokrini in Thessaloniki with her 54-year-old unemployed mother died from carbon monoxide poisoning that was caused from a brazier, which they used for heating as their house did not have a power supply.

According to the official report, the mother lost her consciousness at around 10 in the evening on Sunday. The 54-year-old regained consciousness, but was unable to help her daughter.

The coroner estimated that the 13-year-old girl’s death was attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning, while the police arrested the 54-year-old mother, who was later released by prosecution’s order.

Neighbors reported that the mother and daughter had been living in Greece for about ten years, but the mother had been out of a job for the past few months.
