The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement in response to the 30th anniversary of the Turkish pseudo-state that was set up in the north of Cyprus. The Ministry makes it clear that Greece will never accept the Turkish invasion and occupation as an “accomplished fact”.
According to the Ministry’s announcement “the illegal pseudo-state is a product of the use of violence and has repeatedly been condemned by the United Nations Security Council” and aside from Turkey, no other state has recognized the pseudo-state’s legal status.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs argued that Turkey’s “insupportable and extremely offensive stance on an ‘independent TRNC’” systematically disregards UN Resolution on the Cypriot matter, while harming the Turkish Cypriot community in the process.
The announcement concludes that Greece will instead focus on finding “a comprehensive and mutually accepted solution” which will ensure “the restoration of international law and order and toward the reunification of Cyprus”.
