With autumn settling in and concerns being expressed about this year’s heating benefit, DIMAR has urged the government to reduce the tax on heating oil without the approval of the troika.
The government controversially raised the tax of heating oil last year to match that of diesel in order to improve revenue and tackle the burgeoning fuel smuggling phenomenon. Instead the increase saw a dramatic reduction in consumption of heating oil, which had a significant impact on public health and the expected revenue.
DIMAR stated that “Greek households must not freeze over the winter while the economic thought of troika staff matures” and explained that they have submitted a relevant proposal for discussion in Parliament.
