Supreme Court prosecutor Efterpi Goutzamani has requested that Parliament votes on suspending the parliamentary immunity of Golden Dawn MP Ilias Panagiotaros in order to face charges of sedition after clashes with police officers in Larissa, back in April of 2010. Four more Golden Dawn members have also been charged.
According to the case file, Golden Dawn had planned to honor Grivas Digenis with a march in the central square of Larissa, however the police tried to interrupt the gathering and march over security worries. The Golden Dawn members reacted to the decision and threw rocks at the police.
Panagiotaros and the four Golden Dawn members were detained and taken to the local police department, where they were charged with sedition and unlawful possession of a weapon. The case was to be tried in June 2013, however the courts requested that Panagiotaros’ immunity be lifted.
