The inappropriate and untimely resurgence of the auction issue by the relevant Deputy Minister of Growth Skordas demonstrates just how problematic the coordination and operation in the government is. Without any real reason or care, since no auctions will take place in 2013, he opened a can of worms and only a few hours later had to back down, from all the justified reactions.
In a time when a huge part of Greek society is affected by the crisis, when settlements to help out those with loans are being discussed so they can at least pay part of their obligations, a minister suddenly appears and talks about what is going on in Spain, where thousands of people are losing their homes, under the pretense that initiating a discussion for what will happen after the crisis…
Discussing these matters in such a sloppy and frivolous manner is unacceptable, to say the least. No minister or deputy minister can have their own agenda or handle such important matters without any coordination or planning, without even questioning the impact of what is being said. The government has to learn to coordinate, to become consistent in its actions and prioritize –obviously the economy is important, but they cannot ignore the needs of the people. The ministers deserve a relative degree of autonomy, but they cannot ignore the overall operations of the government. Otherwise they will be forced to defy themselves a few hours later, just like it happened yesterday. We have struggled enough with the ghosts from the past. Is it that hard to coordinate and prioritize, without having to cover up their gaffes and blunders every so often?
