According to the divs of the German Statistics Authority, in 2012 migration to Germany was increased by 13%. Most new migrants come from other countries in the European Union, such as Greece, Portugal and Spain.

Compared to 2011, in 2012 there were about 10,000 more Greeks who opted to migrate to Germany, increasing migration by 43%. The increased migration from other EU countries to Germany was similar, with a 45% increase from Spain, 43% from Portugal and 40% from Italy.

In absolute numbers most new migrants come from Poland and it s noted that there is a huge increase of migration from countries that recently joined the EU in 2004 and 2007, such a Slovenia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. The most popular destinations for migrants is Bavaria, North Rhine Westphalia and Baden Württemberg.
