Two new metro stations will be operating as of Saturday, in Peristeri and Anthoupoli. The two stations in the western suburbs were originally scheduled to be ready in 2008, while a third station, in Haidari, is expected to be ready in September.

The two new stations will accommodate about 50,000 passengers, with a further 25,000 passengers benefiting from the Haidari station. Regarding the south suburbs, four stations in Elliniko, Alimos, Argyroupoli and Ilioupoli are scheduled to operate in July. These four stations have also suffered delays and were originally expected to operate in 2009.

Attiko Metro, the company managing the metro system in Athens, estimates that with the completion of these seven new stations, there will be 37,000 less vehicles in the city streets and about 180,000 new Metro passengers.
