Samaras: “Fast-track reforms necessary”

22.2.13

The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras met with the Minister of Administrative Reform Antonis Manitakis at Maximou Hall on Friday morning, in order to discuss a number of procedure reforms, the suspension measure, cutting expenses and combating corruption in the public sector.

The meeting served to demonstrate to the IMF and EU troika that the PM’s coordination and the cooperation of ministries in common matters are in line with memorandum commitments. On a second degree, the changes are meant to improve the quality of provided services and that the “mobility” program does not equate lay offs.

Despite the optimism however, lay offs seem to be unavoidable when 25,000 civil servants are expected to be suspended by the end of 2013. Mr. Manitakis will attempt to highlight the issue of corruption, by relating it to the “suspension” measure. By doing that, the Minister hopes to reduce criminality in the public sector.
