In response to the publication of the photos of the four Kozani suspects, SYRIZA MP Stathis Panagoulis characterized the Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias a “contemporary neo-Nazi”.
Mr. Panagoulis stated that “the tortures of the Papadopoulos Junta of the 1967-1974 period made sure there was no evidence of torture, after the interrogation and torture of Resistance fighters in the Bouboulinas and EAT-ESA hell holes and emergency court-martials.”
The SYRIZA MP then explained that “the Troika government of Mr. Samaras isn’t keeping up with appearances. They publicize photos of the arrested with evident signs of torture! Let this Triodion government award the Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Dendias with the contemporary neo-Nazi award.”
Government representative Simos Kedikoglou responded, demanding that “Mr. Tsipras’ party demonstrate that it respects the Constitution, the democratic institutions and stability. Because Democracy does not allow threats of lynching political opponents, nor covering comments of emulating terrorist bandits with the struggles of an entire nation for Freedom and Democracy”.
Soon after, SYRIZA’s press office replied to Mr. Kedikoglou’s statement: “We expected the experts of Photoshop and edited videos to falsify the statements of our party members”. SYRIZA maintains that Mr. Stathis Panagoulis’ comparison was not meant to equate their actions with those of Resistance fighters, but rather that the government is not keeping up with appearances.
