The Ministry of Education is seeking funds to cover school needs for the upcoming academic year, especially in terms of teachers, as retirements are at an all-time high and there is very little room for new recruitments.
The Deputy Minister of Education Alexandros Dermentzopoulos revealed on Monday in a meeting with the board of teacher federation DOE that budget has provisions for 2,000 teacher recruitments, with the remainder of teacher needs being covered by community funds.
The funds however have not yet been secured and it remains to be seen how and when the estimated 25,000 substitute teachers will be recruited.
