The leader of the opposition Alexis Tsipras spoke at the meeting of his party’s joint parliamentary and political groups. In his speech, the opposition leader attacked the Prime Minister, Vice President and cabinet ministers for their policies.
Mr. Tsipras explained that since the Prime Minister does not stake any claims regarding the debt and insists that the program is successful, body will take him serious. Mr. Samaras’ main argument appears to be that unless creditors support his government “they will have to deal with SYRIZA”.
The opposition leader characterized the new real estate tax “unprecedented” and accused the Prime Minister of leading an entire society to destitution and indignation. Mr. Tsipras slammed the government for focusing its tax-collection efforts on “the middle class, which has already been sent to hell, while the usual suspects and implicated business owners remain in tax heaven”.
The Prime Minister’s refusal to attend parliamentary sessions for the past year and a half, where he would have to respond to questions by other MPs, did not go unnoticed and Mr. Tsipras asserted that this “subverted the parliamentary process and shrinks democracy”. The opposition leader asked that “he stops hiding and diverting the battle, he has a duty to come, he must stop being a parliamentary deserter”.
Mr. Tsipras insinuated that the government was seriously considering and examining a post-election cooperation with Golden Dawn, despite the warning of such an event and prior to the murder of Pavlos Fyssas. Mr. Tsipras accused the Samaras government of responding to such an eventuality after the brutal murder.
The opposition leader questioned the effectiveness of the New Democracy and PASOK coalition, arguing that their only hopes are in the defamation of SYRIZA presenting the opposition as an extremist party and enemy of the country. Mr. Tsipras claimed that media have colluded with the government’s propaganda and fear-mongering.
Finally, Mr. Tsipras announced that he is determined in establishing a government that will proceed to make radical changes, with the support of the people.
